great tutorial! just a question regarding alignment of handles etc - how do you set the tool so that all the handles are visible, not just those of the anchor point you're adjusting? i.e. so I can make sure they're aligned and create parallel lines.
(I'm using CS3 by the way). thanks :)

I LOVE YOU :+favlove:

I have been photoshopping for YEARS and the pen tool has always been that god awful useless thing that i avoided like the plague.

My first attempt without this tutorial actually made me want to cry.. mainly because i switched to illustrator too..BUT putting it like this made it so easy to learn! THANK YOU.

this tutorial looks really helpful, but I tried using the pen tool while going throught the tutorial and I cant even get my shapes to look like figure 1 in 'the even line'!
Am I supposed to get blobs of black? or a million anchor points?
ahh sry.. i've never used the pen tool b4
but it looks useful

Very useful tut! I was already used to using the pen tool, but now I have learnt a lot more thx! Soon after I read that the vector mask is a little like Illustrator, I started using it, its great to make pictures that you can scale to any size.

Thanks for this amazing tut!

Excellent work! :) I've tried the pen tool before, and looked up a tutorial or 2 but this has been the most helpful so far! I am ashamed to admit my pen paths were quite shocking now that I think back on it. :+fav:

I am a devout pen tool lover. Yes, it is kind of a pain to learn. I silo product for a living (make paths to remove product from the background for those who don't use or not in the field) When you have to use it 8 hours a day, you get used to it pretty quickly. Try to draw a path around a christmas tree.. you see what I mean? I have to say the only difference I see is that I use key commands instead of switching tools, from the pen to direct select and so on. I get the strange looks too. If you take the time to learn, you will forever be happy you did. In the long run it makes things A LOT easier!

This tut is relatively old now (it used to be on my old account) and since then I've started using key commands to switch tools too. Its much quicker and really improves workflow :)

Excellent tutorial!

I've been using the pen tool for a while, but I do most things by eye. But now I understand where some of my mistakes have been and how to fix them.

Dude. I'm recommending this tutorial to all of my dA friends. xD

wow nice tutorial :) Explained very well :) I never thought about using the parallel handle points, I usually just do it by eye and make a near to perfect my not perfectly lined up curve so that'll be very helpful :)
